“Back in 1984, things were looking up, at least in my little corner of the world. This was the time when my decade-long dance with “The Beautiful Game” would begin and when I also mastered some totally rad tricks on my Raleigh BMX. 1984 was when I became lifelong friends with Ren McCormack, Officers Jones, Mahoney and Tackleberry, Daniel LaRusso, Professors Venkman, Stantz, and Spengler, and later, the one and only, Axel Foley.”
- Woodard, Anthony. “There’s a big world out there, and remember, when one door closes, another opens... (Repost)”. Feb. 8, 2023
An immediate blockbuster, “Beverly Hills Cop” received positive reviews and earned $234 million at the North American domestic box office, making it the highest-grossing film released in the U.S. in 1984. Beverly Hills Cop was a cultural phenomenon and was the perfect capstone to arguably one of the greatest years in entertainment, 1984. At the time, the film provided us sixth-graders with endless quotes and memorable scenes to re-enact. To this day, Beverly Hills Cop remains one of my all-time favorite movies; iconic.
Forty years ago, we were blessed with two groundbreaking soundtracks that included unforgettable instrumentals; the soundtrack to Beverly Hills Cop and “Miami Vice: Music From the Television Series”, both of which also included hit songs from the late Glenn Frey. “Beverly Hills Cop: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack” hit number one on the Billboard 200 album chart on June 22, 1985 and later won a Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media in 1986. The soundtrack also featured awesome songs from the legendary Patti LaBelle and The Pointer Sisters.
