Ramones is considered to have established the musical genre of Punk Rock, as well as popularizing it years afterward. The album had a significant impact on other genres of Rock music, such as Grunge and Heavy Metal. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame said of their influence on rock in general: When the [Ramones] hit the street in 1976 with their self-titled first album, the rock scene, in general, had become somewhat bloated and narcissistic. The Ramones got back to basics: simple, speedy, stripped-down rock and roll songs. Voice, guitar, bass, drums. No makeup, no egos, no light shows, no nonsense. And though the subject matter was sometimes dark, emanating from a sullen adolescent basement of the mind, the group also brought cartoonish fun and high-energy excitement back to rock and roll.

Thirty years ago, I was fortunate to experience the Ramones live and in-person at Lollapalooza. They tore through 21 songs in less than an hour. No break, no rest; 1, 2, 3, 4 and on to the next one, all under the hot afternoon sun...
