Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness turns 30!
To all my fellow fans of The Smashing Pumpkins!
This highly acclaimed album was released on October 24, 1995.
The 28-track album was released as a two-disc CD and a triple LP. It features a wide array of musical styles, including Art Rock, Grunge, Alternative Pop, and Heavy Metal. The songs on Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness are intended to work together conceptually, with the two halves of the album representing day and night. Propelled by its lead single “Bullet with Butterfly Wings”, the album debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200. Over the course of 1996, Mellon Collie spawned five more singles, “1979”, “Zero”, “Tonight, Tonight”, “Muzzle”, and “Thirty-Three”, and was certified diamond by the RIAA, signifying over ten million units sold in the United States. It has since been regarded as one of the greatest albums of the 1990s and of all time.
