To all my fellow Soundgarden fans…
This memorable album was released on May 21, 1996.

Self-produced by the band, the music on this album was notably less heavy and dark than the group's preceding albums and featured the band experimenting with new sounds. Down on the Upside topped the New Zealand and Australian charts and debuted at number two on the United States' Billboard 200, selling 200,000 copies in its opening week and spawning the singles “Pretty Noose”, Burden in My Hand”, and “Blow Up the Outside World”. The band played the 1996 Lollapalooza tour and, afterward, supported the album with a worldwide tour.

Just as they did two years before with “Black Hole Sun”, Soundgarden provided the song that most defined my Summer and my return to college, “Pretty Noose”. I also was fortunate to experience this iconic band live and in-person under the hot sun at Lollapalooza ‘96.
