10 years ago… A Toxic Wedding!
It was a night to remember…
We provided the new couple and their guests with some great tunes (and temporary hearing loss).
Some friends of Matt (Brown) heard about our band and asked if we wanted to play at their upcoming wedding reception. Of course, we were all in... Their venue was a big red barn located on the outskirts of Leavenworth, about 30 minutes northwest of Kansas City. The structure was built in the 1890s and is listed on both the Kansas and National Register of Historic Places. Some of Matt’s neighbors who were also attending the event, rented an old school bus to transport everyone to and from. Upon arrival, we saw that the reception and our stage were located on the barn’s upper level. Loading all of our equipment (and beers) up the flight of stairs attached to the building’s exterior provided quite the workout.
We took to the stage shortly after dinner. The front half of the room went mostly dark at sunset, as there was only a portable halogen work light positioned stage left. Unfortunately, as the night went on, the work light overheated, leaving only a couple of iPhones and a tiny, pulsating party light to illuminate our stage. All in all, it was a fun evening, with great people and great weather. Following the event, we received complements from the newlyweds and several guests, some even from the crankiest of critics.
It’s a nice day for a “toxic” wedding…
Looking back, I think Jeff had one too many Red Bulls…
